What is the main cause of the Blue Screen of Death?

There are many causes of Blue Screen of death, most of them would be hardware malfunction, software conflicts, or driver problems. Here are a few reasons why an error occurs at this level.

Faulty device drivers:

Outdated drivers could be the reason behind the error. Windows users are suggested to update their drivers regularly to avoid errors.

Insufficient space in the system disk:

Usually, Windows 10 requires 2 to 10 GB of free space in your system disk for proper functioning. Installing a new driver or software generates several permanent and temporary files that cause memory overflow forcing Windows into the INVALID_DATA_ACCESS_TRAP.

An incompatible version of BIOS is installed:

When an incompatible version of BIOS is installed or the firmware gets corrupt, the BIOS gets overclocked or misconfigured leading to random issues including BSODs. An outdated BIOS might also result in a Blue Screen of Death.

Hard disk corruption:

Error 0x4 can be caused by a broken hard disk or RAM corruption. The hard drive consists of numerous memory indices, when a part of memory gets damaged BSOD occurs because the memory index the CPU wants to access is damaged, the CPU is not able to access the memory index forcing Windows to enter the INVALID_DATA_ACCESS_TRAP.

Unidentified bug:

Windows 10 may cause an unexpected bug that may affect the Master Boot Record (MBR) which eventually could spoil the NTFS file system. The automatic mechanism of NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM (Error Code 0x00000024) shuts your computer system to prevent further damage.

Outdated Windows operating system: The Windows operating system must be updated sometimes for the system’s regular functioning. The chance of having a BSOD error increases if you have pending updates in Windows.

Hardware-software incompatibility: The hardware-software incompatibility or file system corruption could lead to the blue screen of death with the error message REGISTRY_ERROR denoting that the registry found an Input-Output error while reading its files.
